sunday, january 24 "royal navy" butter london unlike most dark blues, it did not stain and had a great formula. showed tip wear on the first day, but only one chip after 2 days. tuesday, january 26 "aux chandelles" L'oreal means "candlelight." a light gray, but it stained or something into looking like a light taupe by day 3. looked like "twiggy" by sally hansen's gel miracle. (see below) friday, january 29 "hopeful" china glaze my favorite so far: good formula and color is the color of the moment (even though I bought it on sale). i am discovering that more and more i love all of the china glaze in my collection. like "hopeful" as much as "carpe diem." wish my nails were a little bit longer! too many dupes! here are most of the color dupes in my collection!

Bun Bo Hue - spicy beef and pork Vietnamese noodle soup
i like asian noodle soup: udon, ramen, pho, etc. i tried something new today and it was appropriately delicious and weird. in oklahoma city we have a beautiful enchanting asian population, mostly Vietnamese and Chinese. they have built a delicious empire of restaurants and businesses. but we do not have a "chinatown" like most cities, we have an "asian district." i suspect this is owing to the fact that okc is so young a place- and that, even though the name "chinatown" has stuck everywhere else, it feels a bit old-fashioned at best and racist at worst. restaurants (that I have been to) in "the district" fall into one of three categories: 1. exclusively for the asian population (no English speakers working there), 2. the restaurants going for universal/ diverse appeal (welcoming to everyone, with a couple of weird items to look authentic), and 3. the places that have a couple of menu items or features for non-asians along side a big menu aimed at the a-pop. The final restaurant type is the one I most frequent. One, a fav of my hubby and me, is a pan-Asian buffet (popular amongst non-Asian patrons) and an a-pop style noodle shop combined. Today, while the hubs got his buffet favorites, i ordered from the a-pop side of the menu and choose something new-to-me. spicy beef and pork Vietnamese noodle soup. bun bo hue. it was weird. it had a ham hock and a layer of fat and a bunch of organ meats and fish cakes. i am proud that I tried at least a bite of everything in the bowl, but i admittally ate around some of the unfamiliar business. (I like fish cakes in moderation, but I choked down the organ meats.) i have vowed to be more adventurous this year. but also to be more healthy. so perhaps choking down meat products i would not normally touch puts my goals at direct odds. i hold believe in a "nerd filter" which strains out the untrue. i actually believe in lots of filters that operate in my life, and more often than not, i strain right through. i think that the bun ho hue spicy beef was a "white girl" filter. like "doctor who" i tried it, gave it lots of chances, but ultimately, i am not a fan. i will continue to try weird foods, but I have to accept the filter. smart girl: dumb show |
