happy new year! these are my favs and must-favs of 2016. not all of these polishes were released this year; many were just new to me in 2016. fyi: i did get out of my comfort zone and try some shimmers, glitters and chrome polishes, but all of my true favs were cremes! here is hoping your 2017 is just as polish-rich and bright! 😘. now in no particular order... 1. "kristen" zoya from the winter 2011 feel collection zoya.com this pale blue gray is a shade that everyone needs in their collection. on my nails, it appears a lot more cool gray than I have seen in other photos, so don't expect a true baby blue. i tried this polish for the first time this summer and fell in love. zoya is a company i want to support more in 2017 bc the polishes are typically very high quality and their commitment to safe, cruelty free products is unparalleled. they also have a variety of neutrals and wearable cremes available, so finding the perfect shade for work is just a click away. 2. "a-piers to be tan" opi from the fall 2013 san fransico collection google search (i picked it up at marshalls) this sneaky carmel chocolate shade warmed my heart in early 2016. it was an unexpected pleasure and i think it will flatter a variety of skintones. i recommend it if you are looking for a neutral shade that has a little "wow" factor to it. 3. "small + cute = ❤️" opi from the winter 2016 hello kitty collection opi.com this pale pink/coral was an unexpected favorite this year. I am not a fan of pinks or corals, but there is something special about this shade. formula is good for such a pale shade. 4. "you're so vain-illa" opi the 2014 coca-cola collection opi.com this charming beige creme has a really great formula and I love the creamy look. I have tried similar nudes and neutrals but this polish was a stand out this year. 5. "sky's the limit" glitter daze luxury lacquer from the 2016 "cloud 9" collection shopglitterdaze.com this very pale baby blue marks a revolution in indie cremes: beautiful opaque & smooth, even in light colors. indies always lead the way in textures, glitters and holographic polishes, but now they also lead the way in terrific creme formulas. this whole collection is reportedly exceptional. 6. "cursed" blackheart beauty (available at hot topic stores) hottopic.com i wore this pure black creme first in march (not your typical spring color, i know). i was blown away by its ease and opacity: no clean up and practically one-coat! since summer it seems that all of YouTube have been searching for the perfect black polish, and no one has come across this gem yet. also, my local hot topic has blackheart beauty polishes on permanent "2 for 1" special @ $5, so the price is also magic! the cremes from blackheart beauty are pretty terrific. you'll notice i have 3 listed here! 7. "neon pink" blackheart beauty (at hot topic) hottopic.com this gorgeous neon pink was my summer 2016 polish! so bright and amazing! i gave this polish as gifts and will do more in 2017. again, I don't love pinks and this was such a striking exception! so amazingly vivid! 8. "mint" blackheart beauty (at hot topic stores) hottopic.com this bright mint is candy on the nails. I wore this in the summer and was in love. I wore this 3 times in a row, I think! Such an opaque creme and unexpectedly classy. 9. "pillar box red" butter london released in 2012 after my september wearing only butter london polishes, my 2 favorites (listed here) are both discontinued so i have also included alternatives. "pillar box red" was my favorite classic red of the year. i found this jewel at tj maxx, but i have sadly discovered it is a discontinued polish ... i'm even having trouble finding it on amazon.com and ebay. so below is an honorable mention that is a close second! honorable mention ... 9. HM "having a big head day" opi the summer brights 2016 "alice, through the looking glass" collection opi.com (top image from https://www.cosmeticsanctuary.com) this was a smooth classic red and readily available! this comes in second only bc it leans a bit orange, but is still quite striking and a great formula! 10. the greens "british racing green" butter london, from fall/winter 2009 collection "christmas gone plaid" opi, from holiday 2014 gwen stephani collection "hunter" zoya, from fall 2013 cashmere collection zoya.com i adore all three of these deep green polishes, so I have listed them together. i have listed them in fav-order, but they are all amazing shades with terrific formulas. sadly, my hands-down fav is the discontinued "brg" which is tough to find, but the other two polishes come in a close second and may be easier to come across. i've even heard a rumor that opi's "christmas gone plaid" has been spotted in some dollar tree stores around the u.s.! what a find that would be! 11.. "cabana boy" julie g from the core collection, released in 2013 jessesgirlcosmetics.com this bright blue creme is a dream! reportedly a brighter version of the infamous original "pacific blue" by sally hansen, the formula for this polish is as charming as the color is striking. available at rite aid stores or online (purchases over $20 have free shipping, so I recommend indulging in other shades when you pick this up!). 12. makeup to breakup" orly from the holiday 2015 "infamous" collection orlybeauty.com this teal leaning blue creme is super opaque and bright on the nail. i wore this in september and could not stop raving about it! 13. "harmonious mess" orly from the summer 2013 "mash-up" collection orlybeauty.com i tried this dusty pale lavender fall of 2016 and was hooked. I have similar shades in my collection, but this is a stand out due to the color: it is pale enough and lavender enough to be strikingly subtle. anyway, i broke it out again for thanksgiving and fell in love all over again. 14. "life's a beach" orly from the summer 2016 pacific coast highway collection orlybeauty.com this neon is amazing. i was warned that one cannot capture this magic in a photo ... so trust me when i tell you that this bright orange is absolutely unmatched. a lot of summer collections boasted good neons, but this might be the pinnacle. 15. "lavender" sinful colors released summer 2012 (I picked this up at a walgreens $.99 sale) sinfulcolors.com this dusty medium blue/lavender opaque creme is gorgeous! It is unique in my collection and has a terrific formula, especially considering the $1.99 price point! 16. "bright lucite" sinful colors from the spring 2014 "mod in bloom!" collection ebay.com I love this pale creamy baby blue creme. this polish came on the scene just when sinful colors began putting out proper collections; this whole line is worth owning: gorgeous pastels and subtle shimmers. i did not try this polish until late spring of 2016 and i wish I could go back in time and pick up all of these colors bc now they are tough to track down. this the single polish that i wore the most this year; mostly in spring and summer! and one final honorable mention ... HM. "golden turmeric" h&m nail polish (above photo from neglelakk.net)
h&m stores this mustard creme was a recent purchase and I adore it! I also received some great compliments on it! i don't hear too much about h&m polishes, but the three i have purchased have been amazing! again, hope you enjoyed a terrific 2016 and that 2017 is even better! love you! 😘 coming soon ... nail polish haul from spain! (holiday trip to madrid and san sebastian)
