happy halloween! something poetic about october here. something about the leaves falling, and tights rising, and dogs barking, can't fly without umbrella here. this is what i wore this october. "just bitten" orly timely, as this is the scarlet jelly from orly's autumn 2017 collection. squishy and sanguine, this was my perfect red this fall. "black cherry" with "velvet kaleidoscope" with orly matte top coat i really liked this combo. i might prefer the shiny to the matte for these polishes, but it was fun. all of these polishes (even the specialty top coat) were from the orly 2017 fall "velvet dream" collection. "diamond in the raw" sinfulshine with gel tech this charcoal-ish metallic foil polish is something i don't normally reach for, but i really dug it this month. it makes me feel pretty. this was featured in my fall picks for this year. "combat blue-ts" china glaze from the china glaze 2016 fall "rebel" collection, this matte blue shimmery demi-metallic is my cup of tea this time of year. i stared at my nails for the three days that i wore this! like "diamond in the raw' this was featured in my fall picks for this year. tr"moonbaby" floss gloss from my new york haul, this floss gloss is gorgeous. it is a great alternative to the "mrs. tony montana" stark white that i had rocked this summer a bunch. "saucy jack" butterlondon featured in my recent butterlondon haul, this was at the top of my must-have list for many years. it remains slightly sheer after 2 coats, but no streaks. love it. "most sinful" sinful shine with gel tech almost a neon blue, this cobalt is memorizing. so charming, a bright fall polish. love it. this polish featured in my recent top 10 sinful colors blog. the next three polishes are from the 2017 orly holiday collection, "darlings of defiance." "faux pearl" orly a little thick, but manageable with a few drops of lacquer-thinner, this polish is sure to be one i reach for over and over again this fall and winter. such a good formula. "penny leather" orly something really distinctive, i adore this sauce. this is my favorite from this season's collection. it's unexpected and flattering. "secondhand jade" a greyed-out, smokey, dark green, anyone? i'll have seconds. "i canolli wear opi" opi
from opi's fall 2015 "venice" collection, i've heard that this shade is the closest to opi's infamous "my boyfriend scales walls." i think it's pretty great on its own merits. the application is sweet! hope that you had a good october and enjoy a fabulous november. happy haunting, bitches. thanks for reading.

subscription box time! i just received my latest collection from my orly color pass subscription. the holiday collection for 2017 "darlings of defiance." like all orly collections, this is a 6-polish collection. my subscription box also offers me a couple extra goodies: this month a "tweexy" bottle holder and a red shimmery vinyl travel bag. "champagne slushie" yikes. so great name, not so great polish. brush strokes galore and old lady frost all over. i'm not terrific with application, so polishes that showcase visible brush strokes are not for me. you may have better luck. shame this polish is so disappointing: orly's fall collection's "silken quartz" was similar, but with a way better formula and NO brush strokes. "faux pearl" off on the wrong foot, this polish righted things a bit for me. this nudey-pink leaning egg shell creme was really thick on the first coat. i added lacquer thinner before the second coat and found it much easier to work with. super opaque and super nice, i really like this polish in application and on the nail. is it unique? kinda in that its not too streaky. saw a review that said this has a subtle gold shimmer, but damned if i can detect it. sneaky sneaky. "stiletto on the run" this jelly apple red leans ever so slightly magenta. it is honestly just a bit lighter than orly's fall collection's "just bitten." (see comparison below). do you need both? maybe? "penny leather" points for unique color, i have nothing like this in my collection. this creme polish is also opaque in one single coat. lovely and interesting ... not a traditional holiday shade though. "secondhand jade" my swatch photo comes across as deep charcoal or slate. in most light, this polish appears deep green. really interesting and totally up my alley ... but again, a holiday shade? doesn't feel so holly jolly. "once in a blue moon" had high hopes for this blue/silver luster. not as many brush strokes as "champagne slushie" but still enough to discourage me. it does look like the movie "frozen." here is the "tweexy" that came in my subscription box. looks fun, but i've been too afraid to try it out as i've seen videos of polish-bottles popping out of it during use. i don't need that kind of surprise. 'silken quartz" (left) next to "champagne slushie" (right) different shades, but close. "silken quartz" is just miles above formula and result-wise. "just bitten" (left) and "stiletto on the run" (right) again, different reds for sure, and both with great formulas. maybe i don't need both? just don't know why such similar polishes were released so close to one another. overall: individually, i dig 4 of the 6 polishes. but overall, does this look like a holiday collection to you? again, individual polishes are interesting. i particularly like the non-traditional green creme. but the collection lacks the brightness and sparkle i have come to expect. "darlings of defiance" seems a bit muddy and muted compared to a traditional seasonal offering. all of the shine and glitter came in the laverne cox curated "celebrate yourself" supplemental collection. (above image from the orly website) this collection, released shortly before the holiday set, has no new polishes, but many of orly's past popular glitz. sadly, this special line was not included in my subscription box. (although, it is offered at a discount) shame that the holiday "darlings of defiance" box lost out on the sparkle. i suppose laverne used it all up. gotta love that crafty minx.
happy defiant holiday, bitches. thanks for reading. shopping addiction? perhaps. i picked up three random polishes recently and thought i would share. these purchases mark the last gasp before my fall/winter "no buy" commences. i also just received my orly color pass subscription box, with the "darlings of defiance" holiday 2017 collection (swatch and review soon). so, i have plenty of new polishes to see me through the upcoming long, dark post-daylight-savings nights. "holly-day" china glaze from the 2011 holiday "Let It Snow" collection, i've been on a search for this polish since 2014. i finally spotted it at my local t.j. maxx this past week. great formula, and a terrific color. a little more yellow-toned than zoya's "hunter," there is something kind of halloween-ish about this polish. if you have read "smart girl dumb show," you know that i *love* a dark green polish. i will have to rank them all soon. "but first, brunch" salon perfect this bright tangerine jelly with gold micro-glitter and shimmer is part of the "neon pop!" collection. i have heard much about this polish on youtube, and was inspired to pick it up upon a recent trip to the walmarts. it is the only salon perfect polish that i currently own. i had heard tell that this polish had a difficult formula, but a stunning result on the nail. but i found the formula strong, easy and build-able in two coats. not completely my style, and in no one's recommendations for fall, this polish does have something special: it is fun and classy at the same time. i shall keep it close and likely bring it out again on a warm february day in 2018. "stay off the lawn!!" opi
from the 2016 fall "washington d.c." collection, this polish was recommended to me by a.girl.and.her.curls on instagram. (gorgeous recent swatches of the whole opi fall collection) i like that the color leans more deep dusty teal than opi's "christmas gone plaid," and that it is a one-coat formula. i love having so many deep green options this winter! if you are wondering, i picked this up at t.j. maxx as well. happy little hauls to you this halloween, bitches! thanks for reading. since 2013, i have been collecting sinfulcolors and sinfulshine (with gel-tech) polishes. sinfulcolors is a drugstore nail polish brand that retails for $1.99-$3.99. there are a select few places to buy these polishes online (ebay, amazon, target, etc.), but these polishes are found more readily off-line at brick-and-mortar retailers. no sales on the official sinfulcolors website. sinfulcolors was founded in 1991 in the u.s., and was acquired by revlon in 2011. the company's goal is keep polishes affordable. the polishes are made in america, but costs are kept low by use of huge batches of 3-free polishes. because sinfulcolors is owned by revlon, they sell to china, which means they are not cruelty-free (foreign companies are required to test on animals in order to ship to the chinese market ... which is ridiculous). i was attracted to sinfulcolors initially because of affordability. i quickly learned that this discount brand had a consistent quality, better than others in their price-point, and sometimes better than competing salon-brands that are 5x the price. when i became serious about collecting, i was disappointed that i could not order sinfulcolors easily online (no official retail site). but i learned to enjoy the hunt. here are my favorites: some are older, some are hard to find, and some are available right now at a walmart near you! "unicorn" #953 this pale pale yellow creme is adeptly named. for many years, one could not see a shade this unique. now, i'm finally seeing dupes, or near-dupes, from other brands. the formula's not good, not horrible, and better than most yellow cremes in my collection. i recommend it. "wisp" #1225 (sinfulshine) if you are familiar with this brand, you may wonder why my sinfulshine polishes do not say "step one" on them. i bought many before the company promoted the top coat with the sinfulshine polishes. i still do not own the top coat. its a gentle scam. i also don't own the sally hansen miracle gel top coat. don't tell me what to do. this white creme is pretty good. i've used most of my bottle. "devious" #1230 (sinfulshine) classic red? don't mind if i do. good formula and a great option for a deep apple red. good application. "rebel" #1234 (sinfulshine) a dusty milk chocolate, this creme is amazing. an almost one-coat neutral, i really appreciate the easy application and flattering tone. "rendezvous" #1238 (sinfulshine) this dusty turquoise creme is currently on a "re-promote" at walgreens throughout the u.s. i highly recommend checking it out. great in two coats. "bright lucite" #1411 this pale blue creme is an old favorite. a great formula for a pastel and very wearable. "blue la la" #1433 this amazing slightly dusty blue polish is difficult to find (or at least, it was for me). it is a favorite amongst collectors and youtubers. it is almost one-coat. if you see it, do not hesitate. "most sinful" #1607 (sinfulshine) this polish has a sinful colors counterpart: "endless blue." both are identical, beautiful, one-coat blue cremes. the difference in quality is minimal, but i have heard that "most sinful" is slightly shinier. if you want to save a buck, go with "endless blue." "cheshire china" #1717 (porcelain matte collection) omg. this very pale dusty cool lilac pops on the nail. it is stunning and a happy polish to have in your collection. i am not sure how readily available it is in stores now, as it was part of a limited edition collection. if you can still find it in your local drug store, let me know. i may need a backup. "i klove u" #2083 (trend matters velvet-kylie jenner demi-matte) another limited edition collection polish, this dark red-leaning brown with gold shimmer is pretty amazing and definitely worth owning if you can find it. i happened to pick this one up at dollar tree this past spring. "lavender" #1007 honorable mention
this is such a great polish, i couldn't leave it out. it is essentially a darker version of "blue la la" but amazing in it's own right. amazing formula. there is something really special about this polish. happy drugstore hunting, bitches. thanks for reading. i recently discovered many butter london polishes at my local tj maxx. it is a hit and miss semi-lux brand, but i love the names, the packaging and the colors. tj maxx does not sell at full price. while these polishes would have originally retailed online or at an ulta store for $15, i got them for $3.99-$4.99 each. here are 5 cremes that i could not live without. "pink ribbon" crelly this pale yellow-leaning crelly took many coats to build up. i feel like i own a better, more opaque version of this polish in "biscuits" by floss gloss. "pink ribbon" is a bit streaky and took 3 coats to be opaque. as far as brit-slang for the polish name, here is what wikipedia has to say: A pink ribbon is used to tie up a brief for delivery to an English barrister. The pink ribbon in this context is usually described as 'pink tape' or 'legal tape' "fiver" creme slang for 5 pound note, this pale minty creme is not as bad as "pink ribbon." this leans a bit blue or teal, which i like. this is a keeper, but not a must-have. "teddy girl" creme this pale pink creme is a bit hard to work with (as you can see from my swatch photo). i do find the shade of pink very flattering though. i dont know if i have the paitence for the formula. teddy girls: great article here on this 1950's girl gang fashion. http://www.anothermag.com/fashion-beauty/8064/teddy-girls-the-style-subculture-that-time-forgot via @AnOtherMagazine "ladybird" jelly-ish creme ok, the swatch game changed with this polish and the next one. the formula is miles better than the previous 3 polishes. so jelly and yet smooth and easily buildable. for the slang: the only thing i found is a different word for "lady bug." this makes the most sense as the bright orangy red color does resemble a lady bug wing. "saucy jack" jelly
a thousand percent bought it for the name: jack the ripper called himself "saucy jack" in a letter to the police. this blood red jelly is amazing, buildable and yummy. this is easily my favorite from the haul. the picture does not do it justice. happy bargain shopping, bitches! thanks for reading. i wish the temperature would drop a little more before i indulge in my cozy autumn shades, but i am too impatient to wait any longer. exploring my collection, i realize that i don't sort my polishes by color or season, but by brand. i went through my helmer (swedish for "holder of nail polish") and chose some great polishes to get us in the breezy autumn spirit. i tried to pick polishes that were accessible (in the u.s., at least); meaning polishes in core collections or currently available in stores or online. here are my categories! deep reds many presume that darker reds should be reserved for holiday or winter months. i say "no" to that thinking. reds look classy anytime, they are terrific on all skin-types, and are both professional and vampy. it's a win-win-win. here are my favs for when the weather turns cool. "just bitten" orly (upper left): a blood red, jelly-like creme, this polish is opaque in two coats, but still manages that squishy appearance on the nail. this is from the current orly fall collection, and is easily accessible in stores and online. "ruby pumps" china glaze (lower left): this famous polish has a terrific effect; a medium to dark red jelly base with lighter red micro glitters throughout. the result is stunning; the glitters appear to be floating in the base. like a fancy bowling ball. "i'm not really a waitress" opi (right): a polish with a shimmer so fine, that it appears like a soft metallic. this remains opi's most popular polish. the best selling ever. greys i love a crisp grey creme in october. I would've included "leather skinnies" by revlon in this category, but ebay seems the only place to find it currently. all of the above are terrific, accessible polishes, and grey is the perfect new neutral: grey is the new nude. "greyfitti" sally hansen miracle gel (left): this pale grey creme has a terrific formula. opaque in two coats, this shade is a must-have that you can find right in the drugstore. "moonbaby" floss gloss (upper right): this light grey leans to a cool green in most lighting. it truly looks like the moon's surface. floss gloss generally does a good job with formulas of paler cremes, and this is no exception. i love floss gloss. "genevieve" zoya (lower right): zoya does good greys. so many, it was difficult to choose one. i like "genevieve" because it is a rich-looking, dark grey that doesn't lean too warm or too cool; it'salmost charcoal but never appears black: grey in all lighting. gourds this category could probably have a better name. these polishes are the warm cremes that i crave this time of year. the colors of various squash, mustards, and custards ... if you know a better descriptor, please let me know. "twiggy" sally hansen miracle gel (upper left): this color is difficult to describe. pale khaki, perhaps? amazingly different color: i have nothing like it in my collection. if you know of a drug-store polish that is similar, please let me know. "it's a piazza cake" opi (lower left): photographed here with matte top coat. this pumpkin colored magic is perfect for fall. "... piazza cake" was largely ignored for a couple of years (from opi's 2015 fall collection), but this year, this polish is on *everyone's* fall picks lists. don't call it a comeback. she's been here for (2) years. "golden turmeric" h&m (right): this mustard colored yellow creme is one of my favorites. this appears more yummy-creamy-custard than many similar shades picked as favorites this time of year. the formula is amazing, especially for a yellow creme. for $6/bottle you cannot go wrong. deep blues not navy, not royal, but cobalt, maybe? whatever you term them, these blues are sexy and luscious; i just can't get enough. back in fall 2015, i hunted deep blue polishes for sport. finally, i feel that main-stream brands are fulfilling that need. these dark, rich, opaque blues are sure to be a staple this autumn ... and every autumn. "combat blue-ts" china glaze (left): from the 2016 fall collection, this majestic matte blue, like opi's "... waitress" has shimmer that creates a soft metallic effect. the result on the nail is soft, matte, velvety and delicious. "tokyo nights" julie g (upper right): this teal leaning deep blue has incredible application. this unsung polish is possibly my favorite julie g. "blue suede" orly (lower right): from the 2017 fall velvet dream collection, this slightly dusty blue is the perfect colbalt for any cold weather transition. you know what? just pick up this entire collection. three polishes are featured in my fall picks, but the whole collection is worth owning. amazing shades and amazing formulas. you need it. browns i love chocolate nails for fall. while many turn to a mauve or a nude neutral this time of year, a brown is such a decadent alternative ... and has the power to be vampy while business appropriate at all times. "party bruise" floss gloss (upper left): a deep warm brown creme is gorgeous. almost opaque in one coat, this polish is easy to apply and luxurious on the nail. "stiletto" julie g (lower left): a warm taupe neutral with fine gold shimmer, this polish is no longer on the jesse's girl cosmetics website, but i have found it quite recently in rite aid drug stores. "i klove you" sinful colors, kylie jenner demi-matte (right): the brown with gold shimmer has almost a duo-chrome finish on the nail. photographed here with a glossy topcoat, my experience with this polish is that it is also very long-lasting. no chips for an entire week. purples for many nail polish enthusiasts, purple or violet is their favorite nail-color, and an opaque creme purple is the ultimate. i embrace all purples in the fall. i especially dig classic jewel-tones, the ever-present "blurples," and dusty pale cremes. "lavender" sinful colors (upper left): this polish is deceptively typical. one-coat and done (if you apply a thick'n), this cool-toned "blurple" is sweet, wearable, and surprises me each time i wear it. it is flattering on my skin-tone, and a hidden gem from this discount brand. "virgin snow" essie (lower left): this creamy lavender has a surprisingly good formula. i have destashed *many* of my essies for crap formulas, so this polish shines like the sun in comparison. perfect this time of year and throughout the winter months. "boho a-go-go" sally hansen miracle gel (right): this deep, warm-toned purple is lush. i loved it especially when my nails were short. something about a dark, rich creme on a short nail looks edgy and classy at the same time. how does that even happen? sparkles
glitters, chromes, metallic, holographic polishes ... these are not in my everyday rotation, but it pains me when they are relegated to holiday-only. as clouds dim the sky, and your world gets a bit melancholy, bring a little glitz to your nails for a fool-proof pick-me-up. the right amount of sparkle can ease that transition to fall and brighten any dull tuesday. "diamond in the raw" sinful colors sinful shine (upper left): this daek silver foil metallic with light silver glitter is an amazing polish from this discount brand. opaque in two coats, it makes a statement without going completely new year's eve on you. "velvet kaleidoscope" orly (lower left): a glittery duo-chrome (multi-chrome?) from the fall 2017 velvet crush collection. this is perfect for fall, in fact, i want my thanksgiving turkey to be this color. yum. "spacerace" h&m (right): a gorgeous holo polish that shines with all the rainbows. a terrific formula, "spacerace" earned a horrible reputation last holiday as the hardest-to-find h&m polish. but it came back to h&m stores this spring and the world wept with joy. opaque in two coats, this polish is lovely year-round. happy autumn, bitches. thanks for reading. one and lonelys. i saw this tag going around the youtube. i checked my collection and found that i had quite a few of these polishes: only one from a certain brand. some of these polishes are among my favorites. interesting that i only own one ... "noir rouge" catrice noir lacquer some of the "one and lonely" polishes are from my spainish haul. i would own more of these polishes if they were readily available in the u.s. this deep wine creme from catrice was a must-have while on vacation. looks black in most lighting. i love me some dark-business this time of year. frida kahlo from republic nail (cannot find the name) this hot-pink-leaning red creme has a terrific formula. i found this polish a couple of years ago at cvs. i bought this for the lovely packaging. i understand that this brand has lipsticks and perhaps other cosmetics in a collection under the "frida kahlo" name. i want more of these polishes, but have only found a hot pink and a putty color. i already own several of those shades, so i haven't invested in any more from "frida." do i recommend this polish? yas. do i need more of this brand? probably. i wish i had cause to go to cvs more often, but sadly, their nail polish selection is typically not as good as walgreens. why don't these polishes have names? if you know, send me a message. "cathy" aengland, "wuthering heights" collection hey, did you know that there is a bbc version of "wuthering heights" with tom hardy as heathcliff from just a few years ago? i've seen the first half. it's not horrible, but the film quality reminds me a bit of a soap opera - which is a turn-off. i wish i owned more aengland polishes, but with foreign indie polishes, i gotta be *totally* hook-line-and-sinker before i can lay out that much cash for an order. (which is why i still don't own any pretty serious polishes). i got this as a birthday gift 2016, and i directed my hubs to live love polish for the order. it was a very special treat. reviews tell me that all polishes in aengland's "wuthering heights" collection are solid-as-a-rock. "cathy" appeared to be the most my jam. good investment. "white russian" nyx nail lacquer in my spanish haul blog, i expressed the glee of finding a stand-alone nyx cosmetics store in madrid. it was humid and crowded, but worth the crush to get in and see these terrific polishes. should i have bought more? of course. this polish cannot boast the best formula in my collection, but it's okay to work with for a lighter shade. "cherry clafoutis" astor quick and shine this polish boasts a 45 second dry time. it did dry kinda fast, but not in less than a minute. another spanish gem, the red creme leans a bit orange. very good formula, but i am not reaching for a reddy orange shade as often as i thought. "leather skinnies" revlon and "blue de nime" bourjois 1-second gel effect i just featured these two in my september favorites blog. Terrific formulas, terrific polishes. I owned another of the revlon leather cuir line, but i de-stashed it, as the texture appeared differently than "leather skinnies" ... kind of unflattering. I bought the bourjois polish overseas and I cannot find these polishes in the states. "blushing crystal" mineral fusion a vegan nail lacquer available at whole foods. pretty good formula and pretty sweet opaque coral-leaning-pink creme. every time i hit whole foods, i search these polishes, but often find a lack of variety. if "blushing crystal" is any indicator of quality from this brand, my bet is that the formulas are generally terrific. "B52" alissa picked up this deep, warm-brown creme at a bodega in basque-country in spain. its a typical discount brand sold mostly to children (i think). my hubs thought i should try it out. the formula is not good, but i do like the resulting color. also, such a cute, little bottle. "wondrous" kokie featured in my oregon haul blog from a couple of months ago. this italian brand is found at some walmart stores in the u.s. (none near me, of course). "leo" ncla lovely, nudey, "leo." i picked this up at a marshalls near me ... if i see anymore ncla's i will snatch them up without a second thought. "in the pacific" moonshine mani great new indie brand from youtuber, pheobe moon. love her and love this dupe for sally hansen's original "pacific blue." like many indie brands, she focuses on what the main-stream brands will not: holographic polishes, glitters, duo and multi-chromes, etc. i respect indie designers taking those risks, but they are not truly my style, thus i only own this creme. love the formula and the shade. i own sally hansen's "pacific blue" now and yet, i reach for this one more often. "wet cement" wet n' wild megalast
why don't i have more ww-megas in my collection? because the ones i find at my local drugstores are boring and picked over. many a reviewer and youtuber praise polishes from this line, but i can never find the specific ones they talk up. this was a rare moment when i found a gem. "wet cement" is probably readily available where you live ... but for me, it was a unicorn hunt. for september, i wish the temperature matched the month. i am in the mood for dark, sultry autumn shades, but it feels as if spring has sprung all over again. in a couple of months, i will long for the 80-degree days of september ... but now, i'm ready to wear a coat again, over cozy, snuggled-up sweaters, while i drink a warm beverage in the icy wind. perhaps i have seasonally over-romanticized things due to the fact that i am OVER summer. september was a healthy mix of end-of-summer polishes, and a sneak peak of fall indulgences. "blue de nime" bourjois 1 second gel this creme surpasses many in collection: both formula-wise and opacity-wise. (using "-wise" speak a lot lately. ever seen "the apartment?") wish i had picked up more of this brand while in spain. sadly, this is the only bourjois 1-second gel that i currently own. worth another overseas trip? of course! "it's a piazza cake" opi fall 2015 venice collection in this collection, this polish was largely ignored by the nail-enthusiast community, but was totally celebrated by the fashion community when it was released. every model and makeup artist at fashion week september 2015 featured this lacquer in their blogs and vlogs. if memory serves, this opi collection had 12 total polishes, (typical, by their behemoth standards), and was overall favorably received. i own a couple of the non-traditional neutrals from this collection, and i really like the colors, but the formulas are nothing special. "piazza cake" is the exception, with a terrific formula and great opacity, in addition to the pumpkin, burnt-orange shade. i wore it this month with a matte top coat. it felt like fall in a bottle. "work out with vickie" p2 nude benefit this polish is a "one-and-only" polish for me, in that, i only *currently* own one p2 polish. this german import can be found at most u.s. walmarts now. in my limited research, they have a good reputation as a european drug-store brand (although, what is "drug-store" now? you can buy opi and essie and orly at the drug store.) this sheer white polish has a shimmer that does not appear on the nail, but wins points for lack of streaks. i love a sheer white lately. the best one i've tried *so far* is the h&m nail polish "champagne blush." slightly more recommended than "workout with vickie," only because of ease of application. "let's meet" the shimmer jelly version sinful colors i don't know if one can readily find this version (or any version) of "let's meet." it's an odd, older sinful color that i found in the discount section of a louisiana rite-aid. i like the mustard jelly base and golden yellow shimmer. the formula is not bad: opaque in two coats and fairly easy to apply. anyone else have one of these in their collection? i'd love to hear your take on it! "bananas have peelings too" opi spring 2015 hawaii collection i have seen more adam sandler movies set in hawaii than elvis movies set in hawaii. is adam sandler, in a twisted way, the new elvis? thoughts? this polish is controversial ... not really, but it adds much needed gravity to this blog :) polish enthusiasts HATED "bananas ..." in 2015. seriously, this polish made people mad. it is super odd and the formula is not great ... you must shake the hell outta it to get any of the matte glitters dispersed ... and then getting any of the matte glitters actually on your nails is a fresh nightmare. i'm being over the top: it's not the worst polish that i have put up with. it's got one good thing going for it: this polish is unique. for a main-stream brand, this is true-bonkers. now, savvy polish collectors know that if they want this look, they can find IT plus a much better formula in the indie world. i bought this nail polish because of the controversy (any press is good press, eh?) i thought it was fun when i wore it this month. i even wore it to a fancy cocktail party and i felt pretty. success. "cash out" sinful colors people always say that discount brand, sinful colors, produces "hit and miss" polishes. not completely untrue, however, i find more hits than misses. in my opinion, opi is less reliable quality-wise (the apartment), and it costs 5-times as much. that said, sinful colors' variety of polishes don't include many neutrals or nudes ... which are totally my jam. they *did* put out a lot of great pastels recently. "cash out" is a good example of a great value pastel-creme that is perfect for spring, summer, or fall. i wore it this month with a matte top coat. i really tested the longevity of this polish and it stood up. take that salon-brands! it's currently on my toes. squee. "prince arthur road" nails inc. nailpure featured this last week in my nyc haul. great pigmented, one-coat creme. took a long time to chip, as well. did it stain? you know it! my nails don't stain easily, but stainer-polishes can really do a number on cuticles, and under my nails. would i wear it again? YASS its that good, even at $15. "leather skinnies" revlon yes, this was in last month's "favorites." i adore this textured grey, one-coat, matte polish. it is amazing. be prepared to see it again: she is my go-to. best swatches: nyc haul of floss gloss
these three polishes receive honorable mention this month as my favorite swatches. i look forward to wearing all of these cremes in October. great fall colors, great formulas. love me some floss gloss. |
