for september, i wish the temperature matched the month. i am in the mood for dark, sultry autumn shades, but it feels as if spring has sprung all over again. in a couple of months, i will long for the 80-degree days of september ... but now, i'm ready to wear a coat again, over cozy, snuggled-up sweaters, while i drink a warm beverage in the icy wind. perhaps i have seasonally over-romanticized things due to the fact that i am OVER summer. september was a healthy mix of end-of-summer polishes, and a sneak peak of fall indulgences. "blue de nime" bourjois 1 second gel this creme surpasses many in collection: both formula-wise and opacity-wise. (using "-wise" speak a lot lately. ever seen "the apartment?") wish i had picked up more of this brand while in spain. sadly, this is the only bourjois 1-second gel that i currently own. worth another overseas trip? of course! "it's a piazza cake" opi fall 2015 venice collection in this collection, this polish was largely ignored by the nail-enthusiast community, but was totally celebrated by the fashion community when it was released. every model and makeup artist at fashion week september 2015 featured this lacquer in their blogs and vlogs. if memory serves, this opi collection had 12 total polishes, (typical, by their behemoth standards), and was overall favorably received. i own a couple of the non-traditional neutrals from this collection, and i really like the colors, but the formulas are nothing special. "piazza cake" is the exception, with a terrific formula and great opacity, in addition to the pumpkin, burnt-orange shade. i wore it this month with a matte top coat. it felt like fall in a bottle. "work out with vickie" p2 nude benefit this polish is a "one-and-only" polish for me, in that, i only *currently* own one p2 polish. this german import can be found at most u.s. walmarts now. in my limited research, they have a good reputation as a european drug-store brand (although, what is "drug-store" now? you can buy opi and essie and orly at the drug store.) this sheer white polish has a shimmer that does not appear on the nail, but wins points for lack of streaks. i love a sheer white lately. the best one i've tried *so far* is the h&m nail polish "champagne blush." slightly more recommended than "workout with vickie," only because of ease of application. "let's meet" the shimmer jelly version sinful colors i don't know if one can readily find this version (or any version) of "let's meet." it's an odd, older sinful color that i found in the discount section of a louisiana rite-aid. i like the mustard jelly base and golden yellow shimmer. the formula is not bad: opaque in two coats and fairly easy to apply. anyone else have one of these in their collection? i'd love to hear your take on it! "bananas have peelings too" opi spring 2015 hawaii collection i have seen more adam sandler movies set in hawaii than elvis movies set in hawaii. is adam sandler, in a twisted way, the new elvis? thoughts? this polish is controversial ... not really, but it adds much needed gravity to this blog :) polish enthusiasts HATED "bananas ..." in 2015. seriously, this polish made people mad. it is super odd and the formula is not great ... you must shake the hell outta it to get any of the matte glitters dispersed ... and then getting any of the matte glitters actually on your nails is a fresh nightmare. i'm being over the top: it's not the worst polish that i have put up with. it's got one good thing going for it: this polish is unique. for a main-stream brand, this is true-bonkers. now, savvy polish collectors know that if they want this look, they can find IT plus a much better formula in the indie world. i bought this nail polish because of the controversy (any press is good press, eh?) i thought it was fun when i wore it this month. i even wore it to a fancy cocktail party and i felt pretty. success. "cash out" sinful colors people always say that discount brand, sinful colors, produces "hit and miss" polishes. not completely untrue, however, i find more hits than misses. in my opinion, opi is less reliable quality-wise (the apartment), and it costs 5-times as much. that said, sinful colors' variety of polishes don't include many neutrals or nudes ... which are totally my jam. they *did* put out a lot of great pastels recently. "cash out" is a good example of a great value pastel-creme that is perfect for spring, summer, or fall. i wore it this month with a matte top coat. i really tested the longevity of this polish and it stood up. take that salon-brands! it's currently on my toes. squee. "prince arthur road" nails inc. nailpure featured this last week in my nyc haul. great pigmented, one-coat creme. took a long time to chip, as well. did it stain? you know it! my nails don't stain easily, but stainer-polishes can really do a number on cuticles, and under my nails. would i wear it again? YASS its that good, even at $15. "leather skinnies" revlon yes, this was in last month's "favorites." i adore this textured grey, one-coat, matte polish. it is amazing. be prepared to see it again: she is my go-to. best swatches: nyc haul of floss gloss
these three polishes receive honorable mention this month as my favorite swatches. i look forward to wearing all of these cremes in October. great fall colors, great formulas. love me some floss gloss.
