log + reviews + my new top (coat) + my updated lemming list!! february 23 "v.i.peach" sinful colors "class act" or "chalk board" collection (2015, I think) walgreens finish: demi-matte creme i had just had a great experience with sinful colors' "lavender" that I decided to give this yellow a try. i have a lot of yellows yet to try in my collection , so i need to get going. what i am finding with yellow cremes is that they appear darker on the nail than in the bottle. application and formula was not faultless, but ranks far above my recent experience with "creme de la creme" from sally hansen miracle gel. 2-3 coats and looks fab!! finish is matte or "demi-matte" (which is bit softer looking than full matte, i suppose). i always use a speed dry top coat, so i eliminated matte (shiny in photo). purchase note: got this in one of those famous $.99 sinful colors sales at walgreens. keep an eye out for those! february 25 "christmas gone plaid" opi from the gwen stefani holiday 2014 collection eBay finish: creme a. good anytime of year! b. the best formula i've experienced in a long time! i don't know if I was just expecting a hot mess (my experience with dark forest greens in the past) or if opi has done something super duper special here. all I can say is that I love this business. glided on like a dream!! purchase note: eBay has some great lost polishes, but watch your shipping costs, because you could easily be paying way over full price if not careful!! week wrap-upmust-have: "christmas gone plaid" opi. it's too pretty not to! pick-up: "v.i.peach" sinful colors. solid formul for a yellow. not too light, not too dark. and for $1.99 it's a good bargain. 💅🏼both polishes this week were terrific and destined to be repeated. i may want to wear yellows all summer long! topcoat"caviar topcoat" nails inc. marshall 's the top coat of the moment. I found this quick drying top coat for $1.49 ... whaaaaat? it promises to rapid dry in 45 seconds. i don't know if it's that's fast, but it is certainly high quality and i think it might be faster than "hk girl" by glisten and glow!! that's fast, bitch! lemminglemming list of the moment! from left to right: "it's a piazza cake" opi: 2015 fall "venice" collection very unique burnt orange creme that was everyone's fav this fall. "let's chalk about it" china glaze: 2016 spring "house of colour" that light pink i've been seeking; reports say it has a great formula! "brooch the subject" essie: 2011 winter collection an oldie, but it has been recommended more than any other polish for the "mannequin hands" manicure i'm looking for. more lemming - a nude from butter london "high tea" and "looker" i love a nude. something tells me I'll need to invest in something a bit high dollar in order to be happy!! (butter london typically retails in the US for $15/ea) nudes?do you have a nude polish to recommend? let me know in the comments section.!!! what is your perfect "mannequin hands" shade of nude? ✋✋🏻✋🏼✋🏽✋🏾✋🏿💅🏼

i went nuts this month with the buying!!! opi, essie, and sinful shine! "i couldn't bare less!" opi 2015 add on to the "soft shades" collection (i think soft shades is opi's bridal line) tj maxx $3.99 from the small research i've done, it seems to be a matte polish part of the gel line that came out with "soft shades" for 2015, but not in the main collection. i haven't seen a review of it anywhere. has anyone tried this? "my car has navy-gation" opi 2015 "brights" collection sally's beauty supply. $4.00 i reviewed this polish already in the blog post "nail log mid-february." love the color, but looks like i have "mom hands." (i love the moms, just not the "mom hands" look.) "tickle my france-y" opi part of the opi "classics" collection tj maxx. $3.99 on my lemming list for eva! such a popular and sweet shade. cannot wait to try! described by opi as "a naughty neutral." "can't afjord not to" opi 2014 "nordic" collection, now in the "classics" collection tj maxx $3.99 how would you describe this color? a creamy pinky orange? a creamy coral? pretty whatever you call it. i can see me reaching for this all spring! "so many clowns...so little time" opi 2011 femme de cirque collection tj maxx $3.99 not quite white ... so nice! i love an almost white shade. it is supposed to be sheer with a bit of shimmer. i can't see the shimmer, tho. "partner in crime" essie 2014 fall "dress to kilt" collection marshall's $3.99 ive heard very similar to "little brown dress." supposed to be delicious. "perennial chic" essie 2015 spring "flowerista" collection marshall's $3.99 i've had my eye on this for months. so the urban rumor is that the tags on the cap means that the essie came from a drug store rather than a department or higher end salon retailer, but that's not the rumor ... the rumor is that the cap labeled bottles represent a lower quality product. seems silly. wonder if it's true. i'll try this peachy nude and find out. "Indian summer" essence target $1.99 never heard of this line, which I think is a target exclusive. cute and right price. i'll have a review soon. "pragmatic" sinful shine from sinful colors walmart $1.50 (2 for 1; regularly $2.99 each) i have some purples in my collection, and some light shades that swing periwinkle, but none like this lilac-y lavender. might be too prissy for me, but i am on a mission to get all of the cremes in the sinful shine collection. "alfresco" sinful shine by sinful colors walmart $1.50 (2 for 1; regularly $2.99 each) i already own the sinful colors dupe for this: "sail la vie" but I decided to buy the sinful shine version for two reasons 1. i wish to own all sinful shine cremes 2. both "alfresco" and "sail la vie" are the closest matches i have found to one of the two pantone colors of the year: "serenity." ("hopeful" by china glaze is the closest I own to "rose quartz.") reviews soonif i keep buying like this, i'll never get through my project. I'll add them to my list and let you know the reviews.
This is a log of polishes I wore between feb 8 and feb 22. i cheated a bit and bought some new polishes!*. look for my haul post coming soon! february 7, 2016 "diva-lish" opi marshalls this was a bottle in the mini halloween collection 2015. i bought it in november, so you could say it wasn't too popular. I read some blogs that reported that, despite being a cute collection, the "let's get wicked" 4-packed were exact dupes of some very recent opi colors. I don't own any of the previous polishes, so these were all new to me ... although I pretty much have dupes from other brands for 2 of the 4. the bottles are a second concern. last week, i logged "shabby drab" by color club; this was also a "mini" bottle at 0.25 oz (a regular bottle of polish is typically 0.5 oz). but these opi minis are 1/8 oz (which is 1/4 the size of a regular or full opi bottle). the teeny bottle made me feel like a giant trying to use a doll's polish. (look how tiny the bottle looks in my giant man hands - photo above). it still worked, but I would anticipate it being too difficult for people to apply. the hot pink color is not one I would normally pick, but as it is the beginning of the valentine's day week, i thought I'd get girly. great formula: color makes my fingers look squat. is that a thing with pink? purchase note: again, i bought these at marshalls for a discount fairly quickly after halloween had past this year. february 11, 2016 "my car has navy-gation" opi* sally's beauty supply from the 2015 summer "brights" collection. a favorite of many a blogger and youtuber, this was on my lemmings list. i had been searching for a bright or striking navy blue since last summer. the formula was good, (no staining), but the color looked odd. this reminded me of a polish worn by a soccer mom supporting her kids' team whose colors are blue and gold. maybe being so soon after super bowl sunday, my mind went there! The polish just didn't feel elegant or striking ... every time I looked at my hands, it looked like mom superfan. purchase note: I had heard about sally's having sales but had never seen them. The rude workers who populate my sad sally's reluctantly showed me the small discount polish area after i had searched the entire store clearly in need of assistance. the fact that a polish i had been looking for was actually there (on sale!) felt like a miracle. but seriously, the shitty help deters me from being a frequent shopper. get your shit together, sally's okc belle isle!! february 12, 2016 "nail envy" opi tj maxx nail envy is a treatment you wear on your bare nails to strengthen and improve peeling nails. the instructions - I found online - told me to put it on your bare nails and add additional coats over top each day. it was recommended to do this for 3 days; I did it almost a week. purchase note: i've heard this very popular treatment is $18-$20. i found it in a 2 for $7.99 deal at tj maxx! did you know the store is called "tk maxx" in England? why? 💅🏼💕🐈 february 18, 2016 "creme de la creme" sally hansen miracle gel target i was really really looking forward to wearing this shade. i bought it over thanksgiving break; got it in some kinda cosmetics sale at target. this is my most disappointing polish to try in this project. the formula was really difficult to work with and I had to touch it up one day after applying. you can see how bad my cuticles look in the photo above. ive had some really good experiences with other shmg polishes - "twiggy" is one of my favs - but I think I'll stop buying them for now. i stopped by a target last week and one of the young women who works in the cosmetics dept mentioned that she would "never buy nail polish here." I thought this was bad salesmanship - which it was- but she went on to tell me the nail polishes they have on display - in that target at least - are there for months and months and most are far past the point of being sellable. And - she went on - most arrive from other stores, meaning they are even way older than we think. i thought nail polish had quite a long time shelf-life. Does anyone know how long before polish goes "bad?" purchase note: i happen to buy this polish at the same target where the salesgirl told me about how old the polish is. did I get a bad batch? had my polish gone bad before purchase? february 22, 2016 "lavender" sinful colors walgreens wow! this is the biggest surprise of this project! this color was great: purple with a right amount of gray ... beautiful! the formula was one of the best i have used thus far in this project. and so surprising that this is a sinful colors. i mentioned in a past blog that sinful colors had "hit and misses." well, this was a hit, a very palpable hit! pretty much opaque in 1 coat as well!!!!! (i did 2 just cuz). purchase note: i think this was one of the polishes i got during the $0.99 sales of sc at walgreens. erin don't pay full price! wrap upgood and bad this month.
must have: "lavender" by sinful colors. I have no dupes for this in my collection and its on the fun side of neutral. classy and fun with a great formula? you can't beat that in a nail polish. Oh! and it's $1.99!! You must have! pick up: "nail envy" by opi. it's great and if you can find it at tj maxx or marshalls it's far less expensive. fun: "my car has navy-gation" is fun if i can get over the "mom hands" stigma. meh: i have a sinful colors dupe for opi's "diva-lish" that may be better than dealing with the teeny "mini" bottle. i'll let you know! it does have a great formula, but the hot pink is not quite for me. stay away: "creme de la creme" by sally hansen miracle gel. this is my 1st "stay away." 😔 again, I may have just gotten a bad bottle. shame, cuz i do like the color. any one have a rec for a very light pink with a good formula? sunday, january 31, 2016 "picante" sinful shine by sinful colors target sinful colors is well known as good brand with a low price (typically $2). I have a large collection of both sinful color cremes and the sinful shine with gel tech. if im honest, I prefer the sinful shine (denoted by the silver cap) which are a little more ($3). I have experienced the rare "dud" polish with sinful colors: hard to manage formulas, easily chipped or staining colors. but the sinful shine with gel tech line seems immune to these issues. they are simply the best polish for the price. "picante" was no exception. beautiful and bright, easy to apply, almost opaque in one coat. i am attempting to own all the sinful shine cremes. word to the wise, sinful shine does not have as many colors as the sinful colors collection, however all of the most popular sinful colors polishes are dupped (duplicated) in the sinful shine collection. bottom line: look for that color in the silver cap before you settle for the black cap. purchase note: you can find these lots of places, walmart, target, walgreens, etc. look for sales. i got this polish for 1/2 price: $1.50 instead of $3! tuesday, february 2, 2016 "shabby drab" color club ebay pretty gray with drop of violet. always heard that color club had great formulas. whomever i heard that from was absolutely correct. yes, this is a "mini" sized bottle: 0.25 oz. I bought this with 3 other small bottles in a set, but i don't know what collection it comes from. I should get more "minis" so I can try more and more! purchase note: i can only find these online. if you know a retailer that carries color club, please tell me! thursday, february 4, 2016 "a-piers to be tan" opi tj maxx opi does cremes so well. I forget about that. this is from the fall 2013 san francisco collection. love the color, love the formula, love it love it love it. why did it take me so long to wear this?? purchase note: if no one has mentioned it to you, the best kept secret for buying certain mid-range to high-end polishes is tj maxx and marshalls. at all times the ones near me have opi, essie, orly, china glaze and I just spotted deborah lipman and butter london. your selection is limited, but many times i can score 2 or 3 really sought after shades, usually 1 year or 3-4 months after release. and for 1/2 price or better, check it out. wrap upi liked every polish this week! "a-piers to be tan" by opi really surprised me with how beautiful and different it appears on the nail. it was my fav. the other 2 polishes had really great formulas, but I have 2 dupes of "picante" in my collection already and I feel like the color club gray could be found elsewhere easily. if you lack these colors yourself, id say pick them both up.
must have: "a-piers to be tan" opi (check it with your skin tone) if you need a bright orangy red: go for "picante" sinful shine pick up color club online if you need a mid-range gray |
