This is a log of polishes I wore between feb 8 and feb 22. i cheated a bit and bought some new polishes!*. look for my haul post coming soon! february 7, 2016 "diva-lish" opi marshalls this was a bottle in the mini halloween collection 2015. i bought it in november, so you could say it wasn't too popular. I read some blogs that reported that, despite being a cute collection, the "let's get wicked" 4-packed were exact dupes of some very recent opi colors. I don't own any of the previous polishes, so these were all new to me ... although I pretty much have dupes from other brands for 2 of the 4. the bottles are a second concern. last week, i logged "shabby drab" by color club; this was also a "mini" bottle at 0.25 oz (a regular bottle of polish is typically 0.5 oz). but these opi minis are 1/8 oz (which is 1/4 the size of a regular or full opi bottle). the teeny bottle made me feel like a giant trying to use a doll's polish. (look how tiny the bottle looks in my giant man hands - photo above). it still worked, but I would anticipate it being too difficult for people to apply. the hot pink color is not one I would normally pick, but as it is the beginning of the valentine's day week, i thought I'd get girly. great formula: color makes my fingers look squat. is that a thing with pink? purchase note: again, i bought these at marshalls for a discount fairly quickly after halloween had past this year. february 11, 2016 "my car has navy-gation" opi* sally's beauty supply from the 2015 summer "brights" collection. a favorite of many a blogger and youtuber, this was on my lemmings list. i had been searching for a bright or striking navy blue since last summer. the formula was good, (no staining), but the color looked odd. this reminded me of a polish worn by a soccer mom supporting her kids' team whose colors are blue and gold. maybe being so soon after super bowl sunday, my mind went there! The polish just didn't feel elegant or striking ... every time I looked at my hands, it looked like mom superfan. purchase note: I had heard about sally's having sales but had never seen them. The rude workers who populate my sad sally's reluctantly showed me the small discount polish area after i had searched the entire store clearly in need of assistance. the fact that a polish i had been looking for was actually there (on sale!) felt like a miracle. but seriously, the shitty help deters me from being a frequent shopper. get your shit together, sally's okc belle isle!! february 12, 2016 "nail envy" opi tj maxx nail envy is a treatment you wear on your bare nails to strengthen and improve peeling nails. the instructions - I found online - told me to put it on your bare nails and add additional coats over top each day. it was recommended to do this for 3 days; I did it almost a week. purchase note: i've heard this very popular treatment is $18-$20. i found it in a 2 for $7.99 deal at tj maxx! did you know the store is called "tk maxx" in England? why? 💅🏼💕🐈 february 18, 2016 "creme de la creme" sally hansen miracle gel target i was really really looking forward to wearing this shade. i bought it over thanksgiving break; got it in some kinda cosmetics sale at target. this is my most disappointing polish to try in this project. the formula was really difficult to work with and I had to touch it up one day after applying. you can see how bad my cuticles look in the photo above. ive had some really good experiences with other shmg polishes - "twiggy" is one of my favs - but I think I'll stop buying them for now. i stopped by a target last week and one of the young women who works in the cosmetics dept mentioned that she would "never buy nail polish here." I thought this was bad salesmanship - which it was- but she went on to tell me the nail polishes they have on display - in that target at least - are there for months and months and most are far past the point of being sellable. And - she went on - most arrive from other stores, meaning they are even way older than we think. i thought nail polish had quite a long time shelf-life. Does anyone know how long before polish goes "bad?" purchase note: i happen to buy this polish at the same target where the salesgirl told me about how old the polish is. did I get a bad batch? had my polish gone bad before purchase? february 22, 2016 "lavender" sinful colors walgreens wow! this is the biggest surprise of this project! this color was great: purple with a right amount of gray ... beautiful! the formula was one of the best i have used thus far in this project. and so surprising that this is a sinful colors. i mentioned in a past blog that sinful colors had "hit and misses." well, this was a hit, a very palpable hit! pretty much opaque in 1 coat as well!!!!! (i did 2 just cuz). purchase note: i think this was one of the polishes i got during the $0.99 sales of sc at walgreens. erin don't pay full price! wrap upgood and bad this month.
must have: "lavender" by sinful colors. I have no dupes for this in my collection and its on the fun side of neutral. classy and fun with a great formula? you can't beat that in a nail polish. Oh! and it's $1.99!! You must have! pick up: "nail envy" by opi. it's great and if you can find it at tj maxx or marshalls it's far less expensive. fun: "my car has navy-gation" is fun if i can get over the "mom hands" stigma. meh: i have a sinful colors dupe for opi's "diva-lish" that may be better than dealing with the teeny "mini" bottle. i'll let you know! it does have a great formula, but the hot pink is not quite for me. stay away: "creme de la creme" by sally hansen miracle gel. this is my 1st "stay away." 😔 again, I may have just gotten a bad bottle. shame, cuz i do like the color. any one have a rec for a very light pink with a good formula?
