orly nail polish has quickly become my favorite mainstream brand. several of my favs are from the summer 2017 collection. the way they do cremes at orly just gets better & better. i picked up most of these at tj maxx for $3.99 or through the "color pass" subscription box ... most polishes work out to be $4/ea. "harmonious mess" from the summer 2013 "mash up" collection very unique blue grey creme with subtle shimmer. i love this color anytime of year. "tropical pop" from the summer 2014 "baked' collection famous & bright, this neon is mac n cheese tastic. formula is thin and does not self level, but the color, oh the color! over a white base, as you can see from my less than perfect swatch. "cakepop" from the spring 2015 "sugar high" collection i love polishes that appear almost white. great polish, great opacity. "summer fling" from the summer 2017 "coastal crush" collection the crellies from this collection make my life. this bright peachy coral is truly something special. "snowcone" from the spring 2010 "sweet collection" an amazing one coat creme and quite a well known polish. "no regrets" from the summer 2017 "coastal crush" collection a bright crelly, opaque in two coats. you'd think this is a common bright pink, but i have nothing else like this in my collection. "makeup to breakup" from the holiday 2015 "infamous" collection black in many lights, this navy teal is perfect for fall. "sufer dude"
from the summer 2017 "coastal crush" collection this bright neon orange has a better formula than "melt your popcicle" or even "lifes a beach." i dont own some of orly's more famous polishes: glowstick, rage, mirrorball ... so perhaps this list is incomplete. i just received my color pass box with the fall collection. perhaps it contains more favorites!

what does late summer mean to you? to me, it means panic ... to accomplish all of the things that i set out to do in the warmer months. here is what to wear on your nails as you scramble. these are my fav color catagories for this summer. whites. "mrs. tony montana" floss gloss (left) "funny bunny" opi (upper right) "matte white" blackheart beauty (lower right) the floss gloss polish is amazingly opaque: one-coat with the right application. "funny bunny" is very sheer, but so classy if you dont mind visual nail line. "matte white" has a great formula and is matte without appearing too chalky. baby blues. "kandy hearts" sinful colors (upper left) "blu" zoya (lower left) "meet me at the rink" color club (right) these are some my fav light blues. all have pretty great formulas. "blu" is my favorite but it can appear a little too stark on some skin tones. neons. "celtic sun" china glaze (left) "thistle do nicely" china glaze (upper right) "mint" blackheart beauty i have raved about all 3 of these eye-searing colors recently. "mint" is the only one that does not require a white base coat. nudes. "fresher than my clique" china glaze (top) "godiva" zoya (lower left) "leo" ncla (lower right) none of these polishes are true nudes for my skin tone, but i still love them. i wish that my pic was better for "fresher..." it has a great formula and it really stood up to some of the dicier parts of my job. a nude polish can look so fresh and classic this time of year: a great pallette cleanser to all of the neons and brights. pinks. "neon pink" blackheart beauty @ hot topic (upper left) "pool party" china glaze (lower left) "baby cakes" jesses girl cosmetics (right) yes, all of these are hot pinks. this is the only time of year that i indulge in pink. go big or go home, right? corals.
"island coral" sinful colors (upper left) "summer fling" (with "sufer dude") orly (lower left) "flip flop fantasy" china glaze (right) coral was, for many years, my lest favorite nail shade. but this season, every collection shows multiple corals. the entire orly summer line "costal crush" i am in love with. the colors are bright and fun, and the formulas are amazing. what are your favorite polishes this time of year? visiting family in oregon, i took advantage of some sales, some rite-aids and some tax free retail. "baby cakes" jesse's girl cosmetics only to be found at the elusive rite-aid, jesse's girl has a fantasic variety of cosmetics, including some dupes for high end eye liner, etc. this neon barbie pink polish is super sheer and requires a white base coat, but the results are stunning and the prices are right ($3.99). "9 to 5" julie g nail color under the jesse's girl cosmetics umbrella is julie g. it too only retails at rite aid stores, so i save up my lists for when i am near one. this sheer neon pastel melon seemed a streaky mess on the first coat, but evened up on the 2nd. again, a white base was required. "wondrous" kokie milano nail color picked this up at an oregon walmart. so many bloggers and you tubers have been raving about these polishes, i had to try them. i have not seen these in my state, so i was delighted to find these so accessible, retail-wise. the formula was excellent, but the color selection that i found was mostly typical. pick these up if you are looking for a basic creme with a superior formula. maybe soon we shall get some more unique colors in the u.s. "wet cement" wet n' wild megalast i could swear that i already owned this gorgeous neutral ... but i dont! another rite aid find, this polish was discounted down to $0.50. the formula is a one coater, and the color is perfect! "blue la la" sinful colors
bonus! i finally found the rare "blue la la" at walgreens deep within my home state, shortly after returning from oregon. i've been searching for this shade for months, in several states. i did a test and it appears to be a one coater! have you hauled anything recently? do you own any of the above polishes? what is your review? happy july 2017! never thought that i would make it this far. all of the polishes i wore in june, i loved; so here is what i wore in order ... "unicorn" by sinful colors this is an older sinful colors polish that i've had forever. it is found at most drugstores and i highly recommend it. its paler than most yellow polishes and i love that. the formula is not the best, but about average for most yellow polishes. "island coral" sinful colors another from the core line: very readily available. such a great formula and the coral leans pink, which i prefer to orange-y coral shades. i've had this polish for years. dont know why i put it off ... "the i's have it" with "rich girls & po' boys" opi minis "the i's..." comes from the 2016 spring "alice through the looking glass collection." and i picked up "rich girls..." with a holiday 2016 "month of manis" mini set of opi polishes; this included opi's holiday collection & some of their popular 2016 and core line polishes. "rich girls..." is a shade from the 2016 spring/summer new orleans collection. love both these colors. "let's be friends" opi mini this mini hails from the 2016 hello kitty collection for opi. i thought that it had a great formula for a very pale pink. (in the photo it appears much more pale nude). got it in a small set of 5 hello kitty polishes that i found discounted at tj maxx. "flip-flop fantasy" china glaze (original formula) i had no idea that ... back in april when i picked this up ... that this was the original formula of the famous neon shade. the true glow of this shade cannot be captured on film. i had always heard the formula was terrible, but it wasn't that bad, honestly. still wearing this on my toes. "meet me at the rink" color club i think this polish came out in a 2015 collection. i picked this up, recently, at walmart ... amazing: both the polish and the fact that now color club polishes are available at such a big chain. do yourself a favor and snap up this great polish! "celtic sun" china glaze i love this neon in the hot hot weather! layered here over opi's "put a coat on" white base coat. Unlike "flip-flop fantasy" white undies are required. still, so worth it for such an eye popping highlighter yellow. get this at your local sally's beauty supply. "thistle do nicely" china glaze mini really love this neon pink. again, layered over opi's "put a coat on" bc undies may not be required, but it really does make a difference. got this mini in a bin at sally's beauty for $1.99. i indulged in the minis this month a great deal. so excited to find these varieties! great way to try out so many shades. "casual friday" china glaze mini another great mini! this polish i think was released recently ... spring? for some reason this mini was $1.29 instead of.$1.99 at sally's ... this yellow was really surprising: a better formula than a typical yellow creme. "pool party" china glaze this polish appears far more red in this photo than it looks in real life. i liked this color a lot more than i anticipated. the shade lives in this really interesting place between red and hot pink and is also neon. layered over opi's "put a coat on" white base coat to maximize the brightness. "mint" blackheart beauty from hottopic this neon pastel is a favorite of mine from 2016. such an interesting shade and surprisingly flattering. i featured this in my favorites for 2016. almost opaque in one coat, no undies required. "shade of happiness" essence the gel nail polish wish that i would have snapped a pic of this polish in full sunlight. i have wanted this polish for about a year. i finally was able to pick it up in spain over the holidays. compared to all of the neons that ive been wearing, this orange shade looks almost neutral. "in full blue-m" sally hansen complete salon manicure this blue leaning grey creme has a terrific formula. its a great shade to wear anytime of year. opaque in almost one coat, it was a dream to work with. the csm line is supposed to include all steps of the manicure: base, color and top coat. which is why, i suppose, it retails at the higher end of sally hansen's lines: $8-$9. i got this and a couple of others on sale at walgreens for $2/ea. i also use both base and top coats to lessen the chance of chipping. "tilda" zoya
i am finally wearing the grass green pantone color of the year! i dont know why i put it off for so long. the color is very interestingly complimentary on my skin tone and the formula is really great (like most zoyas). very nice way to close out the month. so that was all of the polishes that i wore in june 2017. not one that i did not like! if you would like to know about the polishes that i wore in may or april, please tweet me at @shakespeare_okc. or tell me what polishes were your favorites for june. |
