it took nearly thirty-eight years for me to discover that i wasn't gonna be happy until i collected something. now i collect nail polish. it is a recently discovered obsession. to me, it seems at once frivolous, even wasteful and totally delightful. now i am completely immersed in this world that was foreign to me just a handful of months ago. i find comfort in the nail vloggers, the brands, the polish types, the top coats, the base coats and the collections. discoveries made: 💅🏼 i prefer cream or "creme" polishes. creams are opaque colors without frosted, shimmer, glitter or metallic finish. glitters are currently all the rage, but on me, i think creams look classier. above is a cream with a matte top coat. 💅🏼 i like neutral and light colors. I like nude or skin tone polishes and white-ish colors. before getting into this scene, i would've assumed the wild or neon colors were for me. 💅🏼 i really like shopping for nice polishes at bargain prices. trips to tj maxx or marshalls for opi, essie or china glaze polishes at 60-70% off is my jam. about 3-6 months after a collection is released, i have been able to find these brands at discount prices. i no longer waste $$ on discount polishes that are low quality. 💅🏼 i am not too into nail art, but i have found a couple of cool things that don't look bad on my short-ish nails. above is a glow -in-the-dark top coat over opi 's "good grief" for halloween and a narrow arrow done by salon in brooklyn: "primp and polish." 💅🏼 my short-ish natural nails are better then getting long acrylics or "dip" nails...for me. last year i went to a salon to get "dipped" nails, which i was told was better than gel nails and non-damaging. but i think i was swindled into a type of acrylics or fiberglass. my natural nails were damaged and weak and i have been reviving them ever since. 💅🏼 with a bit of practice i have been able to do my own nails pretty adequately. i have naturally bad nails and doing my own nails has prompted me to take more care. my personal care has also proved better than the salon I used to frequent. 💅🏼 $$ - even with cultivating a small collection, i am still spending less $$ than what I would've spent frequenting a salon 2-3 times per month. 💅🏼 i am kinda obsessed with my personal collection. from what I have seen from you tubers, mine is quite small, comparatively. i have really struggled to keep things exclusive (which is perhaps easier since i am not interested in the latest trends in glitters or duo-chromes), but i occasionally still try a brand because it's cheap or has a "star wars" sticker on it. 💅🏼 terms are very important. here is a friendly and informed you-tuber who has created a "dictionary" to help newbies like me! @jessface90 is great and in the details of the video below is a schedule of terms, so you skip to something specific. thank you, @jessface90 and you're welcome to you. follow me on twitter @shakespeare_okc
warning: i tweet about nail polish, "star wars," jane austen and my cats.
