i recently discovered many butter london polishes at my local tj maxx. it is a hit and miss semi-lux brand, but i love the names, the packaging and the colors. tj maxx does not sell at full price. while these polishes would have originally retailed online or at an ulta store for $15, i got them for $3.99-$4.99 each. here are 5 cremes that i could not live without. "pink ribbon" crelly this pale yellow-leaning crelly took many coats to build up. i feel like i own a better, more opaque version of this polish in "biscuits" by floss gloss. "pink ribbon" is a bit streaky and took 3 coats to be opaque. as far as brit-slang for the polish name, here is what wikipedia has to say: A pink ribbon is used to tie up a brief for delivery to an English barrister. The pink ribbon in this context is usually described as 'pink tape' or 'legal tape' "fiver" creme slang for 5 pound note, this pale minty creme is not as bad as "pink ribbon." this leans a bit blue or teal, which i like. this is a keeper, but not a must-have. "teddy girl" creme this pale pink creme is a bit hard to work with (as you can see from my swatch photo). i do find the shade of pink very flattering though. i dont know if i have the paitence for the formula. teddy girls: great article here on this 1950's girl gang fashion. http://www.anothermag.com/fashion-beauty/8064/teddy-girls-the-style-subculture-that-time-forgot via @AnOtherMagazine "ladybird" jelly-ish creme ok, the swatch game changed with this polish and the next one. the formula is miles better than the previous 3 polishes. so jelly and yet smooth and easily buildable. for the slang: the only thing i found is a different word for "lady bug." this makes the most sense as the bright orangy red color does resemble a lady bug wing. "saucy jack" jelly
a thousand percent bought it for the name: jack the ripper called himself "saucy jack" in a letter to the police. this blood red jelly is amazing, buildable and yummy. this is easily my favorite from the haul. the picture does not do it justice. happy bargain shopping, bitches! thanks for reading.
