if a manicure makes you feel presentable or put-together, you only need FOUR nail polishes in your collection. with these polishes, you are covered for all occasions and moods. wear whatever you want i'm an advocate of fun and unusual nail polish, and now is the golden-age of rule-breaking nails. however, if you want to save your precious time and money, i recommend investing in key workhouse polishes. here are the staple nail polishes that will serve you best. a classic redgot one? save some $$ and use it! odds are, the red you own has a good formula, and is only lightly used. spruce it up with lacquer thinner for a second life. need it? select a shade that will serve your needs and personality. whether bright and cherry, or deep and vampy, no red will do you wrong. a complimentary neutral"neutral" covers a range of shades. it is best described as your "job interview" nail polish. i recommend a beige, taupe, brown, nude or mauve creme polish with good coverage that compliments your personal skin tone. a matching "nude" always looks great, but be warned, you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your perfect skin-tone polish. picking up a shade that is complimentary is far easier. a very light-color polishfor some, this is a stark white creme, for others, a pale pink sheer. for everyone, having a very light shade they love is perfect for spring/summer manicures, and always looks great on your toes! need it? i recommend thinking slightly outside of your comfort-zone for a light color. your favorite may be a very pale gray, or yellow. a very dark polishthink "date-night" but also club or concert wear. i consider holiday and winter fashion when i select a go-to dark polish. some may want a classic black creme, and others may be more comfortable with a deep burgundy, a rich navy blue, or a dark forest green. a color correcting sheer (optional)another staple polish may be a "no polish" look. correcting sheer polishes make your nails appear flawlessly naked. want it? i recommend the naked manicure system by zoya. you can skip the base and top coat and get the correcting shades that are right for you. essie's "ballet slippers" is a sheer baby pink and pop-culture favorite.
